If the game isn't made to be regularly printed, then the maker doesn't have the confidence in the product and is willing to sacrifice integrity for a quick buck. The game is appealing to newbies who aren’t going to feel seriously handicapped by their inexperience, but it’s at its most interesting when you play it with experienced players - who are precisely the demographic most likely to be frustrated by how small their skill advantage is.

The initial alien selection and opening hands weight the game very heavily in one player’s favor or another at the outset, and the cards play such a big role that even smart play often isn’t enough to change the fate you’ve been handed. I actually quite enjoy it but I understand why people don’t. I already have both expansions for ti3 anyway, so all I am getting is the new tech system and tweaked rules/races.
